The use of biogas permits poor households to cook on a gas stove, save conventional fuels, and produce fertilizer at the same time. Beyond the household level, atmosfair also promotes the generation of renewable energy from biomass waste, which often constitutes an unused energy source in developing countries. Here, too, atmosfair meets environmental standards; for example, atmosfair does not support any projects in which energy crops that could compete with food production are raised.
CDM Gold Standard projects
Nepal: Biogas plants for household energy
Status: operation (Phase III) Households in Nepal using excrements to generate energy.
India: Electricity from crop residues
Status: operation(Phase III) Two biomass plants are delievered by thousand small farmers with crop residues ...
Kenia: Biogas from cow dung
Status: operation (Phase III) Farmers around Nairobi are using cow dung to generate biogas ...
Pilot Projects
Tanzania: Power generation from coconut wood residues on Mafia Island
The power supply of the Tanzanian island of Mafia is completely dependent on diesel. In this project, biomass gasification technology is used to generate electricity and heat from coconut wood waste.
Tanzania: Composting of Organic Waste
Hundreds of tonnes of organic waste are produced every day in Tanzania. In this project, organic waste is not disposed of in landfill sites, but collected separately and decomposed into organic fertiliser in a controlled manner in a composting plant.
Malawi: Energy-efficient brick production
Status: Construction (phase II) In Malawi, our partners are building three Vertical Shaft Brick Kilns (VSBK) which enable bricks to be produced more efficiently. Those require over 50% less energy than traditional kilns and use biomass waste as fuel.
