Calculate the CO₂ footprint of your event
Use our CO₂ event calculator to quickly and easily calculate the emissions of your event. Are you missing some data? No problem, the atmosfair CO₂ event calculator supports you with statistical estimates. In individual steps, the calculator then guides you through a more precise calculation based on your own activity data. You can then easily offset unavoidable residual emissions in our project portfolio.

Step by step to a CO₂-offset event
Step 1 – Avoidance: Emissions can be avoided through foresighted planning. For example, you can clarify whether green electricity will be used when selecting the venue. Motivate your guests to use environmentally friendly means of transport by providing information on local public transport or offering rail tickets for the event. You can find more tips on reducing emissions in our guidelines on sustainable event planning.
Step 2 – Calculation: In the second step, the amount of unavoidable CO₂ emissions is calculated. Various parameters of the event are taken into account in six steps. For larger events and if you need help with the reduction and calculation of emissions, you are welcome to contact us directly. You can find a list of the required activity data and tips on how to obtain it as a download on this page.
Step 3 – Offsetting: The final step is to offset the remaining emissions through atmosfair. The atmosfair CO₂ event calculator is directly integrated into our project portfolio and enables fast offsetting in our double-certified climate protection projects on request. You will receive your personal offsetting certificate for your communication as well as a tax-deductible donation receipt.
Calculate the CO₂ emissions of your event
We have developed this digital online tool based on the VDR standard to calculate the carbon footprint of your event. This allows you to calculate your event emissions in a short time or, if data is missing, estimate them with our help. You can then make your climate protection contribution in the amount of the calculated emissions directly with atmosfair. The advantage: you receive your certificate immediately and easily. You can view two examples for event calculations here: for a family reunion with 40 people and a conference with 150 participants.
Calculation methodology
atmosfair calculates the CO₂ emissions of your event on the basis of the VDR standard “CO₂ calculation for business travel”. This comprehensive methodology was developed by atmosfair together with the German Association of Travel Management (VDR). Our emission factors are regularly reviewed and updated.
But don’t worry: our CO₂ event calculator does all the calculation work for you! Even if you can’t enter all the data, you only need to enter a few basic details to make first calculations and estimates. The online tool guides you step by step through the CO₂ calculation process – completely free of charge. This gives you an overview of your emissions and reduction potential. You can then easily offset unavoidable residual emissions in the CO₂ event calculator.
Our CO₂ event calculator is designed to lower the entry barriers to balancing event emissions. It supports the calculation of emissions by providing statistical values for activity data based on current and scientific sources. Transparency is essential in climate protection and especially in the calculation of emissions. That is why atmosfair makes the calculation methodology of the CO₂ event calculator freely available on this website.

Carbon mitigation projects
To offset the carbon emissions associated with your event, you can support one of our carbon mitigation projects. These don’t only save CO₂, but also promote sustainable development through technology transfer and poverty reduction. We develop and operate our carbon offset projects ourselves. This gives us maximum control and transparency and avoids unnecessary costs through intermediaries.
